Dr. Allen is Board Certified for Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology by the American Board of Internal Medicine who believes in the practitioner research model of care. He believes in incorporating the model where science and practice work together ensures the best outcomes for his patients. His clinical interests are Inflammatory Bowel Disease (Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative) and Colon Cancer.

Dr. Allen is certified in Gastric Balloon (ORBERA non-surgical weight loss system), Small bowel capsule endoscopy, Esophageal manometry/24 hr Ph probe, and CHR O’Regan System painless hemorrhoidal banding. In addition, Dr. Allen is the Director of Endoscopy and Director of the Esophageal Manometry Laboratory at St Luke’s Hospital. He is licensed to practice in the State of North Carolina, Georgia, and New York. He has hospital privileges at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare, St. Elizabeth Medical Center.

He is a member of the American Gastroenterology Association, The American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, American Medical Association, American College of Gastroenterology, National Medical Association and Crohn’s Foundation.

A past member of the Winston-Salem City Advisory Board for the Boy Scouts as well as an Executive Board Member of the YMCA of the USA and a member of its National Medical Advisory Committee.

Dr. Allen is a four year NCAA All American in Swimming, Olympic Trial Qualifier, and Captain of the Johns Hopkins University Varsity Swimming Team, North Carolina AAU Swimmer, State Champion, and Record Holder. In 2020, Dr. Allen was inducted into The Johns Hopkins Swimming Hall of Fame.

When Dr. Allen is working in the field, he enjoys playing golf and swimming with his family.

Tom has been working in healthcare administration and management for over 20 years holding various positions in independent primary care and specialty groups, commercial laboratories and senior leadership in hospital settings.

A Certified Public Accountant since 1994, Tom has advised on matters ranging from business formation and governance, mergers and acquisitions, partner ownership transactions, contracting and reimbursement, process improvement, medical quality management and EMR systems implementation.

A graduate of Utica College at Syracuse University, Tom resides with his family in New Hartford.
